The short answer
Square Loyalty is the more integrated choice when a café already uses, or wants to use, Square as its transaction system. Earning rules can be tied directly to visits, spend, items and categories, rewards can appear at checkout, and Square can connect loyalty activity to sales reporting. Çentik takes the opposite approach: it runs independently of the till, so a café can keep its existing POS and add a browser-first loyalty program with a physical NFC touchpoint, QR, Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, customer segments, campaigns and QR Menu Pro.

This is not an apples-to-apples software-price comparison. Square Plus is a broader commerce subscription that bundles loyalty with POS, marketing and staff functionality, while Çentik Pro is primarily a loyalty and café-retention product. A business already paying for Square Plus may therefore have little or no incremental subscription cost for loyalty, while a business that does not want Square as its POS may find Çentik's standalone model materially simpler.
Çentik vs Square Loyalty at a glance
| Criterion | Çentik | Square Loyalty |
|---|---|---|
| Published software price | $19.99/month for the first location; current pricing page lists additional locations at $4.99/month | Loyalty is included in Square Plus at $49/month per location and Square Premium at $149/month per location; Square Free does not list loyalty |
| Free trial | 30 days, no credit card required | 30-day trial for Square Plus and Premium |
| POS relationship | Runs independently of the existing till/POS | Native to the Square commerce, POS and payments ecosystem |
| Customer app requirement | No dedicated app required; the loyalty card opens in the browser | No mandatory app for enrollment; customers can enroll with a phone number and can use a web loyalty status page when Cash App integration is not enabled |
| Mobile Wallet | Apple Wallet and Google Wallet are publicly documented | Square currently documents its digital loyalty pass as Apple Wallet-only |
| Counter interaction | Physical Çentik Stamp NFC touchpoint or personal QR code | Phone-number enrollment/check-in through Square checkout; Apple Wallet loyalty passes can also be tapped on supported Square customer displays or contactless readers |
| Earning logic publicly documented | Visit/stamp-based digital loyalty with multiple reward tiers | Visits, amount spent, specific items and item categories |
| Rewards and tiers | Multiple reward tiers on the digital card | Multiple rewards, up to 15 configured rewards; Square also documents up to six loyalty tiers including the base tier |
| Analytics | Repeat visits, new/active/lapsed customers, reward activity and customer segments | Visits, loyalty versus non-loyalty sales, promotion-attributed sales, top customers and tier reporting |
| QR menu | QR Menu Pro is included in Pro | Square provides broader online ordering and website tools; these are not presented as a directly equivalent lightweight QR-menu feature in the loyalty documentation reviewed |
Where Square Loyalty has the structural advantage
- Transaction-linked earning: because Square is processing the sale, it can automatically apply loyalty rules based on spend, visits, specific items or categories instead of asking staff to enter transaction value separately.
- Checkout redemption: Square can surface eligible rewards inside the checkout flow on Square Register, Square Terminal and supported Square POS apps.
- Revenue attribution: Square Loyalty reporting includes sales for loyalty versus non-loyalty customers and sales attributed to loyalty promotions.
- Deeper rule configuration: Square publicly documents point expiration, multi-reward programs, item/category eligibility and multi-tier loyalty structures.
- One operating stack: cafés that already use Square for POS, payments, customer records, ordering and marketing can keep loyalty inside the same system.
Where Çentik has the structural advantage
- POS independence: Çentik publicly states that it runs independently of the till, so a café does not have to replace its payment or POS system to launch the loyalty program.
- Browser-first customer experience: the digital card opens without a dedicated customer app installation.
- Two Wallet platforms: Çentik publicly supports both Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, while Square's current loyalty-pass documentation says Apple Wallet only.
- Physical in-store identity: the lime Çentik Stamp provides a dedicated NFC loyalty touchpoint rather than making loyalty only another screen inside the payment workflow.
- NFC plus QR: cafés can use the physical NFC touchpoint or scan a customer's personal QR code into the same digital loyalty-card experience.
- Café-specific bundle: QR Menu Pro, customer segments, repeat-visit analytics, campaigns and barista accounts sit alongside loyalty in the published Pro plan.
- Lower standalone subscription entry point: Çentik currently publishes $19.99/month for the first location, although Square's $49 Plus price includes a substantially broader commerce software bundle.
Customer experience: both can work without forcing an app download
The distinction is more nuanced than 'Çentik is app-free and Square requires an app.' Square customers can enroll by entering a phone number at the register, through invoice payment or online. Square can show loyalty status through Cash App when that integration is enabled, but it also documents a web-based loyalty status page when the Cash App integration is disabled. Çentik is browser-first by design: an NFC tap or QR interaction opens and updates the digital card, which can then be stored in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
NFC and Wallet are implemented differently
Çentik uses a dedicated physical NFC product, the Çentik Stamp, as a loyalty touchpoint that can sit on the café counter independently of the POS. Square also supports a tap interaction: an iPhone user with a Square digital loyalty pass can tap their phone on a supported customer display or contactless reader during checkout. That is not the same deployment model. Çentik's NFC interaction belongs to a standalone loyalty layer; Square's tap experience belongs to the Square checkout ecosystem. Square's current support documentation says its digital loyalty pass is available only for Apple Wallet on iOS.
Pricing: compare total operating cost, not just the monthly number
Çentik's dedicated pricing page currently lists Pro at $19.99 per month for the first location and $4.99 per month for each additional location, with a 30-day trial and no credit card required. The same page says one physical Çentik NFC device and shipping are included. Square's current U.S. structure is Free at $0, Plus at $49 per location per month and Premium at $149 per location per month, with loyalty included in Plus and Premium. Square also charges payment-processing fees, while Çentik sits on top of whichever POS and payment costs the café already has. For a café already purchasing Square Plus for other operational features, the effective incremental subscription price of Square Loyalty may therefore be zero.
Independent verification matters because Square changed its subscription packaging in late 2025. NerdWallet's 2026 Square pricing coverage independently confirms the $0, $49 and $149 software tiers and notes that Square Plus combines multiple business functions rather than acting as a loyalty-only subscription.
Which businesses are the clearest fit?
- Consider Çentik when keeping the current POS is a priority, the business wants loyalty deployed as a lightweight separate layer, and NFC, QR, browser access, Apple Wallet, Google Wallet and a QR menu are meaningful parts of the desired customer experience.
- Consider Square Loyalty when Square already processes the café's transactions or is being selected as the new POS, and automatic transaction-linked earning, checkout redemption, item/category rules and sales attribution matter more than having a separate loyalty touchpoint.
- For a new café evaluating both POS and loyalty at the same time, compare Square as a complete commerce stack against the existing POS plus Çentik rather than comparing $49 directly with $19.99.
- For a café already paying for Square Plus or Premium, switching only for subscription savings requires a broader calculation because loyalty is already included in that Square plan.
Limitations to understand before choosing
- Çentik runs outside the POS, which preserves POS independence but means it does not automatically inherit the transaction-level payment and item data that Square already sees.
- Çentik's current public U.S. product pages emphasize visit/stamp loyalty. If spend-based balances, SKU-level earning or category-specific earning are requirements, verify the currently live Çentik implementation before purchase.
- Square Loyalty's strongest advantages depend on using the Square transaction ecosystem. A merchant that wants to keep another POS will not receive the same native checkout integration from Square Loyalty.
- Square's current digital loyalty-pass documentation is Apple Wallet-only. Businesses that consider Google Wallet important should verify Square's latest support status before purchase.
- Çentik publicly documents moving paper punch-card progress, but a dedicated automated Square-to-Çentik loyalty importer was not documented in the public material reviewed. Do not promise an automated migration without confirming it.
Migrating from Square Loyalty to Çentik
Square provides an official Customer Directory export to CSV, so customer records are not necessarily trapped inside the dashboard. That does not mean every loyalty balance, active reward and consent state will automatically map into another platform. A migration should therefore be treated as a controlled data project rather than a simple account switch.
- Export the Square Customer Directory and keep an untouched archive of the source data before changing anything.
- Inventory each field that must survive the move: customer identity, phone/email where appropriate, current points, available rewards, relevant visit history and marketing subscription or opt-out status.
- Define the conversion rule before import. Square points, item-based earning and tier status may not map one-to-one to a stamp-based Çentik program.
- Confirm with Çentik which fields can currently be imported in bulk. The public Çentik pages reviewed document setting a customer's starting stamp count for paper-card migration but do not document a Square-specific automated importer.
- Preserve consent and suppression states. Moving a customer record is not a reason to treat an unsubscribed customer as newly opted in to marketing.
- Recommended operational step: test a small migration cohort, reconcile balances and rewards against the Square source, and only then move the remaining customers.
- Set a clear cutover point so customers do not earn in both systems after balances have been reconciled.
Decision checklist
- Do you want Square to be your POS and payment processor, or do you explicitly want to keep your existing stack?
- Do loyalty points need to be calculated automatically from exact transaction amounts, items or categories?
- Is Google Wallet important to your customer base?
- Do you want a branded physical NFC loyalty touchpoint on the counter?
- Do you need loyalty-linked sales attribution or primarily repeat-visit and retention analytics?
- Are Square Plus features beyond loyalty valuable enough that you would buy the plan anyway?
- If migrating, how will current balances, rewards and marketing permissions be reconciled before launch?
Is Çentik cheaper than Square Loyalty?
On published subscription price alone, Çentik Pro is $19.99/month for the first location, while Square Loyalty is included in Square Plus at $49/month per location and Premium at $149/month per location. The comparison is not one-to-one because Square Plus includes a broader POS, marketing and operations bundle. If you already need Square Plus, loyalty may have no additional software subscription cost.
Does Square Loyalty require customers to download an app?
No. Square supports phone-number enrollment at checkout and can provide a web loyalty status page. If Cash App integration is enabled, Square can direct customers into Cash App for loyalty status. Its current digital loyalty pass documentation lists Apple Wallet support.
Does Çentik require a Square, Toast or other specific POS?
No. Çentik's public documentation states that it runs independently of the till, so the café can keep its existing POS.
Can Çentik replace Square POS?
That is not the product position documented publicly. Çentik is a loyalty, retention and QR-menu layer rather than a general-purpose payment-processing and POS replacement.
Does Square support more advanced earning rules?
Square publicly documents earning by visit, amount spent, specific item and item category, plus point expiration, multiple rewards and loyalty tiers. Çentik's current public U.S. pages primarily document visit/stamp-based loyalty.
Which platform supports both Apple Wallet and Google Wallet?
Çentik publicly documents both Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. Square's current U.S. support documentation says its digital loyalty pass is available for Apple Wallet on iOS at this time.
Can I migrate my Square Loyalty customers to Çentik?
Square officially supports exporting its Customer Directory to CSV. However, the public documentation reviewed does not establish a one-click Square-to-Çentik transfer of points, rewards and consent records. Confirm the available Çentik import workflow and reconcile loyalty balances before switching.
Which is the better fit for a café already using Square?
If the café already pays for Square Plus or Premium and wants transaction-linked loyalty inside checkout, Square Loyalty has a strong integration advantage. A café may still evaluate Çentik if it specifically wants a POS-independent loyalty layer, Google Wallet support, the Çentik NFC counter touchpoint or the bundled QR-menu workflow.
